Who this is for: Adults who wish to earn their hunter education certificate and go on their first hunt

We have two Novice Pheasant Hunt Weekends that include hunter education and shooting instruction on the first day followed by a mentored hunt on the second day. The first is for women, and the second is co-ed. Hunting license and lodging at California Waterfowl’s Denverton clubhouse are included. Loaner gear, including firearms, is provided.

HASTINGS ISLAND HUNTING PRESERVE—WOMEN’S PHEASANT HUNT

Cost: $200

This all-experience-levels hunt begins with a pheasant hunt and is followed by lunch and trap shooting. Dinner and overnight lodging at California Waterfowl’s Denverton clubhouse are included. Volunteer guides/dog handlers are available for novice hunters.

GOOSE LAKE

Application type: Lottery

This is a California Waterfowl-owned property encompassing 2,200 acres in Wasco, roughly eight miles south of Kern National Wildlife Refuge. In 2014, CWA reconstructed 300 acres of wetlands on the Houchin Unit to improve water use efficiency and promote the growth of waterfowl food plants such as swamp timothy and watergrass.

There will be three hunters per blind and hunters can hunt all day! Species of take are waterfowl, doves and pheasant. With the right weather and during the season, hunters will be able to take dove and pheasant on CWA’s Badger Almond Unit.

PHEASANT HUNT VOUCHERS FOR NEW HUNTERS (APPLICATIONS CLOSED FOR 2018-19)

California Waterfowl is giving away 75 free vouchers for new hunters to hunt at one of five California licensed gamebird clubs during the 2018-19 season. The vouchers are funded by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

To qualify, you must have completed hunter education on or after July 1, 2015. You will need your hunter education certificate number and certificate date to apply using the form in the link below.
