Women are the one demographic of hunters that is growing, and California Waterfowl is recognizing this trend by hosting a number women’s hunts, as well as fishing trips.

We hold two hunts each season on the gorgeous Staten Island in the California Delta. Join us for dinner and laughs Friday night, get a good night’s rest and then enjoy a mentored hunt Saturday morning. Finish the day with a celebratory lunch.

Special conditions: Only women 18 or older may attend. Hunters may sign up for one of these two hunts per season.

CWA hosts two women’s waterfowl hunts at Grizzly Ranch and Denverton, CWA’s properties in the Suisun Marsh. The hunts include overnight lodging, meals on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, hunt guides, CWA membership and loaner gear.

Each blind will be staffed by a CWA volunteer guide. The guide will take care of waterfowl identification, regulations, gun safety, bird retrieval and game calling. These hunting opportunities are great for new or longtime hunters looking for a great waterfowl hunting experience.

Grizzly Ranch Registration Denverton Registration

Novice Women’s Pheasant Weekend includes hunter education and shooting instruction on the first day followed by a mentored hunt on the second day. Hunting license and lodging at California Waterfowl’s Denverton clubhouse are included. Loaner gear, including firearms, is provided.

Dates: September 28-29(women only) and Oct. 5-6(adult co-ed)

Special conditions: For women 21 and over. Hunters may sign up for only one of these two hunts each season. Spots are limited to first time hunters only. If space is available, we will allow already-licensed women and significant others to join us for the entire event, or just for the hunt.

Cost: $200

This all-experience-levels hunt begins with a pheasant hunt and is followed by lunch and trap shooting. Dinner and overnight lodging at California Waterfowl’s Denverton clubhouse are included. Volunteer guides/dog handlers are available for novice hunters.

Date: Nov. 1-3

Cost: $350

This event prepares novice duck hunters with a full day of training including shooting instruction, lessons in waterfowl ID, calling, cleaning and cooking.

The next day, we take you for morning hunts at three outstanding Upper Butte Basin duck clubs just north of the Little Dry Creek closed zone. It’s a great experience, and the participants often form long-lasting friendships at this event.

Lodging and meals are included.

Special conditions: Women must be at least 21 years old. Event is for women who have hunted ducks five times or fewer, and they must already have a valid hunting license and required stamps/validations. Individuals may attend two consecutive years.


2019-20 Women’s Waterfowl Hunts – Butte Sink -NEW for 2020

Oct. 29-30, 2019

  • All-level general waterfowl hunt for women
  • Individuals will hunt either Sanborn Slough or Butte Creek Island Ranch
  • Hunt in pairs across natural marsh in either stand up or pit blinds
  • Food and lodging are included – enjoy a special Halloween-themed party Tuesday night
  • Expert mentors provided for novice hunters

DNH Farms has donated a rice blind near Robbins, specifically for families, veterans and women. These hunts are unguided in a fully furnished rice blind. Hunters will be in charge of getting themselves to the blind (stools and decoys are provided). Youth hunters need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone (21 or older). There is a one time $25 fee to reserve a date and attend.

Special conditions: At least one member of the hunting party must be a junior, veteran or woman. May hunt all day.
