This three-day event includes workshops on hunting skills and game processing, lodging, and Saturday and Sunday morning hunts at CWA’s Grizzly Ranch in Solano County. It’s open to people ages 10 and over (youth must have adult supervision).

Cost: $150-$225

This special hunt opportunity offers fun and exciting waterfowl experiences for new and experienced hunters alike. The two-day event includes overnight lodging prior to the hunt, a boat ride to the blind, breakfast, lunch and a hunt in a well-managed wetland in the Suisun Marsh with very low hunting pressure. The night prior to the hunt also includes an education portion, where participants learn essential waterfowl identification and regulations, blind set-up and firearm safety skills.

The hunt is $150 for one junior and one adult or $225 for two juniors and one adult. The fee includes a Sprig membership and regular membership to California Waterfowl, as well as lodging and food. For a schedule of the event, blind averages and more, click here.

Novice Women’s Duck Hunt at Closed Zone Farms

NOVICE WOMEN’S DUCK HUNTS

CWA hosts two novice women’s waterfowl clinics where participants can learn everything they need to know about waterfowl hunting. The hunts include overnight lodging, meals all weekend, hunt guides, CWA membership and loaner gear.

Special conditions. For women 21 and over who are already licensed, but have hunted ducks 0-5 times.  Hunters may sign up for only one of these two weekends each season.

DENVERTON AND GRIZZLY RANCH WOMEN’S HUNTS

Each blind will be staffed by a CWA volunteer guide. The guide will take care of waterfowl identification, regulations, gun safety, bird retrieval and game calling. These hunting opportunities are great for new or longtime hunters looking for a great waterfowl hunting experience.

STATEN ISLAND  WOMEN’S HUNTS

ROBBINS RICE BLIND

DNH Farms has donated a rice blind near Robbins, specifically for families, veterans and women. These hunts are unguided in a fully furnished rice blind. Hunters will be in charge of getting themselves to the blind (stools and decoys are provided). Youth hunters need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone (21 or older).

Special conditions: At least one member of the hunting party must be a junior, veteran or woman. May hunt all day.

SOHNREY FAMILY FOODS RICE BLIND

Application type: First-come, first-served

Cost: Free

Sohnrey Family Foods has donated a rice blind off Highway 99 and Nelson Shippee Road specifically for families and veterans. These hunts are unguided in a fully furnished rice blind. Hunters will be in charge of getting themselves to the blind (stools and decoys are provided). Youth hunters need to be accompanied by an adult  chaperone (21 or older). There is no fee to reserve a date or attend.

Special conditions: At least one member of the hunting party must be a junior or a veteran. May hunt all day.

HASTINGS ISLAND WOMEN’S PHEASANT HUNT

Application type: First-come, first-served

Cost: $200

Dates: October 13-14, 2018

CWA’s Women’s Pheasant Hunt is an all-experience-levels hunt at Hastings Island Hunting Preserve in Solano County, where guides are available for novices, or participants can hunt with their own dogs. Lunch and a trap shoot follow the hunt, and participants may stay for dinner and overnight lodging at California Waterfowl’s nearby Denverton property.

Special conditions. For already licensed women ages 18 and up

NOVICE PHEASANT HUNTS

Application type: First-come, first-served

Cost: $250

Dates: Women’s Weekend Sep. 29-30, 2018;  Adult Co-ed Weekend Oct. 6-7, 2018

CWA’s Novice Pheasant Hunt Weekends at Birds Landing Hunting Preserve & Sporting Clays are an amazing opportunity to complete hunter education, get shooting instruction and go on a mentored hunt (with loaner guns available) the next morning. It’s a fast and easy way to give hunting a try without a major commitment of time or money, and you’ll meet others you can continue to hunt with down the road – lasting friendships are formed at this event!

Special conditions. If space is available, we will allow already-licensed women and significant others to join us for the entire event, or just for the hunt.

The cost is a $25 hunter access fee and hunters must be current CWA members in order to hunt. Hunts are open until filled.

Goose Lake is a CWA-owned property that provides water and roosting areas southeast of Lost Hills in Kern County. The hunt area consists of seasonal wetlands, water canals, and eucalyptus and willow trees. There are two food plots on the property, one wheat and the other safflower.
