GOOSE LAKE-Dove

Come join us this fall as the Hunt Program is providing first come, first served dove hunts at our Goose Lake property in Wasco, CA! Known for its stellar dove hunts, participants will be allowed to hunt all day over different food/hunting plots. There are multiple groups and dates to choose from in November and December.

During the late dove season, an abundance of dove utilize the winter wheat food source most prominently during the afternoon and evening hours. Transitioning from the pomegranate orchards, hundreds of dove can be seen staging on the power lines and eucalyptus trees before bombarding the winter wheat field.

Price: $50 for adults; youth hunt for free.

GRIZZLY RANCH—DUCK CAMP

Dates: Oct. 25-27, Dec 6-8, and Jan 17-19

Cost: $350

This three-day event includes workshops on hunting skills and game processing, lodging, and Saturday and Sunday morning hunts at CWA’s Grizzly Ranch in Solano County. It’s open to people ages 10 and over (youth must have adult supervision).

GRIZZLY RANCH—FAMILY HUNT PROGRAM

Application type: First-come, first-served

Dates: Nov. 22-23

Cost: $150-$225

This special hunt opportunity offers fun and exciting waterfowl experiences for new and experienced hunters alike. The two-day event includes overnight lodging prior to the hunt, a boat ride to the blind, breakfast, lunch and a hunt in a well-managed wetland in the Suisun Marsh with very low hunting pressure. The night prior to the hunt also includes an education portion, where participants learn essential waterfowl identification and regulations, blind set-up and firearm safety skills.

The hunt is $150 for one junior and one adult or $225 for two juniors and one adult. The fee includes a Sprig membership and regular membership to California Waterfowl, as well as lodging and food. For a schedule of the event, blind averages and more, click here.

CWA hosts two novice women’s waterfowl clinics where participants can learn everything they need to know about waterfowl hunting. The hunts include overnight lodging, meals all weekend, hunt guides, CWA membership and loaner gear.

Special conditions. For women 21 and over who are already licensed, but have hunted ducks 0-5 times.  Hunters may sign up for only one of these two weekends each season.

DENVERTON AND GRIZZLY RANCH WOMEN’S HUNTS

Dates: Grizzly Ranch, Nov. 8-9, 2019; Denverton, Jan. 3-4, 2020

CWA hosts two women’s waterfowl hunts at Grizzly Ranch and Denverton, CWA’s properties in the Suisun Marsh. The hunts include overnight lodging, meals on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon, hunt guides, CWA membership and loaner gear.

Each blind will be staffed by a CWA volunteer guide. The guide will take care of waterfowl identification, regulations, gun safety, bird retrieval and game calling. These hunting opportunities are great for new or longtime hunters looking for a great waterfowl hunting experience.

RANCHO ESQUON—YOUTH HUNT

Application type: First-come, first-served

Dates: Dec. 27-28, Jan. 3-4, Jan. 10-11

Cost: $75-$150

This special hunt opportunity offers fun and exciting waterfowl experiences for youth hunters. The two-day event includes overnight lodging prior to the hunt, a ride to the blind, breakfast, lunch and a hunt in Rancho Esquon’s rice. The night prior to the hunt also includes an education portion, where participants learn essential waterfowl identification and regulations, blind set-up and firearm safety skills.

The hunt is $75 for one junior and one non-shooting adult or $150 for two juniors and one non-shooting adult. The fee includes a Sprig membership to California Waterfowl, as well as lodging and food.

Special conditions: Only juniors may shoot. Blind stools and decoys are provided.

2019-20 Women’s Waterfowl Hunts – Butte Sink -NEW for 2020

  • All-level general waterfowl hunt for women
  • Individuals will hunt either Sanborn Slough or Butte Creek Island Ranch

DNH Farms has donated a rice blind near Robbins, in the Sutter Bypass, specifically for families, veterans and women. These hunts are unguided in a fully furnished rice blind. Hunters will be in charge of getting themselves to the blind (stools and decoys are provided). Youth hunters need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone (21 or older). There is a $25 fee per person (youth are free) to reserve a date and attend.

Special conditions: At least one member of the hunting party must be a junior, veteran or woman. May hunt all day.

Merlo Waterfowl has donated a rice blind off Biggs Princeton Rd, just west of Biggs, CA. These hunts are unguided in a fully furnished blind. Hunters will be in charge of getting themselves to the blind (decoys and stools provided). You will have the blind all day. Youth hunters need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone (21 or older). Sohnrey Family Foods has donated a rice blind off Highway 99 and Nelson Shippee Road specifically for families and veterans. These hunts are unguided in a fully furnished rice blind. Hunters will be in charge of getting themselves to the blind (stools and decoys are provided). Youth hunters need to be accompanied by an adult  chaperone (21 or older). There is no fee to reserve a date or attend.

HASTINGS ISLAND WOMEN’S PHEASANT HUNT

Application type: First-come, first-served

Cost: $200

Dates: October 19

CWA’s Women’s Pheasant Hunt is an all-experience-levels hunt at Hastings Island Hunting Preserve in Solano County, where guides are available for novices, or participants can hunt with their own dogs. Lunch and a trap shoot follow the hunt, and participants may stay for dinner and overnight lodging at California Waterfowl’s nearby Denverton property.

Special conditions. For already licensed women ages 18 and up

NOVICE PHEASANT HUNTS

Application type: First-come, first-served

Dates: Women’s Weekend Sep. 28-29;  Adult Co-ed Weekend Oct. 5-6

CWA’s Novice Pheasant Hunt Weekends at Birds Landing Hunting Preserve & Sporting Clays are an amazing opportunity to complete hunter education, get shooting instruction and go on a mentored hunt (with loaner guns available) the next morning. It’s a fast and easy way to give hunting a try without a major commitment of time or money, and you’ll meet others you can continue to hunt with down the road – lasting friendships are formed at this event!

Special conditions: For women 21 and over. Hunters may sign up for only one of these two hunts each season. Spots are limited to first time hunters only. If space is available, we will allow already-licensed women and significant others to join us for the entire event, or just for the hunt.
