Duck Camp – December 4-6
Duck Camp is a two-and-a-half day introduction to the art of waterfowling.
Dates: Dec. 4-6, 2020.
The camp is designed to help new and beginner waterfowl hunters in the following areas: calling, decoy spreads, shooting, shot selection, distance judging, concealment, waterfowl identification, game laws, ethics, wild game preparation and hunting opportunities.
Do I need a hunting license? Yes, all participants need a valid 2020-21 California hunting license with a California duck stamp and federal duck stamp.
How do I sign up? Click the register tab to sign up.
How much does Duck Camp cost? $450 per hunter. You may attend by yourself or sign up with a friend.
Who is considered a junior hunter? A junior hunter is anyone who holds a junior hunting license. All junior hunters must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older.
Does the hunting party need to include a junior hunter? No, the party can include one adult, two adults, one junior and one adult, or two juniors and one adult.
Who can attend? Anyone with a valid 2020-21 California hunting license can register if they consider themselves a new or beginner waterfowl hunter. Past Duck Camp attendees can not apply.
What is included? A two-night stay at Grizzly Ranch, food and drink, decoys, blinds, boats, game cleaning facility, CWA memberships and expert instruction is included.
Can I bring my hunting dog? Yes, but all dogs must be kept in a dog crate or vehicle when you are not hunting. You will be responsible for the behavior and actions of your dog, as well providing adequate food and water.
Where does the hunting take place? All of the waterfowl hunting at Duck Camp takes place at Grizzly Ranch located in the famed Suisun Marsh, bordering Grizzly Island Wildlife Area. The ranch is over 900 acres and the wetlands are managed by CWA biologists. The blinds consist of two- and three-man tanks and stand-up blinds. Decoys and transportation to and from the blind are provided.
Where does everyone sleep? All participants sleep in a open-roomed bunk house equipped with rollaway beds. Private rooms are limited.
What do I bring?
-Hunting gear: valid 2020-21 California hunting license, California duck stamp/validation, federal duck stamp, HIP stamp/validation, ear and eye protection, 2-4 boxes of steel ammunition, gun, gun case, waders, camouflage jacket, hat, gloves, camera, and warm clothes.
-Overnight gear: includes sleeping bag, pillow, etc. Indoor sleeping facilities are provided for everyone, but no showers are not available.
I do not have the necessary hunting gear, what can I do? California Waterfowl will lend gear for the weekend.
Do I need prior shotgun shooting experience? Yes, prior shotgun shooting experience is necessary. If you have no prior shooting experience please call Carson Odegard or Garrett Williams.
Note: Past Duck Camp attendees cannot attend.
