Wood Duck Program

Woodduck program

The California Wood Duck Program was initiated by California Waterfowl in 1991. The program utilized a unique combination of volunteers, interns and biologists working together to benefit wood ducks.

More than 30,000 ducklings hatch from program boxes each year, and nesting information guides wood duck management in California.

The program helps raise awareness of the importance of forested riparian habitats and it provides hands-on experience with many wildlife species.
