HABITAT NEWS

Of the more than 30,000 acres of habitat projects statewide in 2006, roughly 10 percent (3,000 acres) were restored or enhanced riparian wetland habitats. With a total of 42,407 ducklings hatched from managed nest boxes, reaching a cumulative program total of 405,343 ducklings.

SCIENCE

Wood duck hens often lay their eggs in another hen’s nest. New research techniques compare this behavior between nest boxes and natural cavities. To learn about the implications for habitat management, click here>>

POLITICS & EDUCATION

What could be more exciting than peeking into a nest box and finding a hen wood duck incubating her eggs? Hundreds of volunteers across the state have felt this thrill as they check on next boxes that they’ve personally built and installed.

Wood ducks and their nest boxes provide hands-on educational experiences for youngsters, volunteers, and landowners. CWA uses displays, slide shows and other resources to teach about wood ducks and riparian wetlands.
