PRESEASON JUNIOR HUNTS

The first annual Cal-Ore youth fair took place on the pre-season junior hunt day, September 23, 2006. There were over 100 licensed junior hunters and 100-150 adults attending.

Cal-Ore provided a great barbecue meal and time for swapping stories as well as a little small group work on duck calling basics.

Special hunt days for junior hunters are set aside in the Northeastern Zone every year before the general waterfowl season begins. These hunt days are for licensed juniors 15 and under on both private lands and in public hunting areas.

Public hunting areas participating in the junior hunt this past year included Butte Valley Wildlife Area, Honey Lake Wildlife Area, Ash Creek Wildlife Area, Modoc National Wildlife Refuge, and Lower Klamath/Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuges.

CWA provided free gifts to all participating juniors, and many of these areas hold special events for the juniors either before or after the hunt. These are excellent opportunities for a terrific hunt, and there’s always room for more at any of these areas.
