New this year: the FEDERAL JR. DUCK STAMP JUDGING Came TO CALIFORNIA!

The 2008 Federal Jr. Duck Stamp Competition was held in California on April 17th at the San Diego Zoo on April 17th at 10:00 am. This was the 15th annual Federal Junior Duck Stamp Judging and unique event, as for the past 14 years the Federal Junior Duck Stamp Judging has been held on the East Coast. California is the first Western state ever to host the judging.

California is one of the biggest supporters of the Federal Junior Duck Stamp program thanks to the unique partnership between US Fish and Wildlife Service and California Waterfowl. Since our first competition in 1990, we've consistently competed for the highest number of state entries. Thanks to the vast support of several other partners and sponsors, California is also the leading state in producing an annual educational Junior Duck Stamp activity poster, newsletter, and calendar.

Likewise, California is the only state to provide Junior Duck Stamp classroom presentations and the annual three day Flyway Journeys Wildlife Art Camp at the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge and week long Flyway Journeys Wildlife Fellowship to Canada, all free of charge.

California Waterfowl would like to thank all of the partners and sponsors who attended the California Federal Junior Duck Stamp Judging on March 26, 2008.  With almost 2,000 entries it was hard for the judges to select only 100 winners and one Best of Show.  After much debate, 15 year old Lydia Han from San Jose was awarded the Best of Show title for her acrylic Ruddy Duck pair. Her art work then went on to capture 2nd place in the Federal judging. Congratulations Lydia!!
