ASSOCIATE EDITOR
Full Time (August 10, 2007 Closing Date)

Position Summary
California Waterfowl Association (CWA) is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented candidate with excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills to produce its bi-monthly member magazine, which includes a mix of conservation and recreation articles. The Associate Editor will serve as CWA’s liaison to writers, photographers, a volunteer editorial committee, graphic designer, and partnering organizations.

Responsibilities
The Associate Editor should be knowledgeable on a variety of topics, including wetlands, wildlife, conservation, hunting interests, and public policy. Responsibilities include the following:

• Work with editorial committee to set themes and article topics.
• Establish and maintain relationships with staff, volunteers, and advertisers.
• Give writing assignments and coordinate scheduling.
• Edit, fact-check, and proofread articles.
• Write articles as needed for each issue.
• Review design proofs and coordinate printing and mail services.
• Maintain archives and magazine database.
• Update related areas of the Web site.
• Provide other technical assistance as needed.

This is a full-time position. Limited travel and weekends required.

Qualifications
Effective communication is essential to the success of this position. Therefore, excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required. The Associate Editor should be familiar with waterfowl, relevant public agencies, natural resource conservation, and hunting. The selected candidate must be able to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and have attention to detail. A bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or another related field is required.
