RANCHO ESQUON CAMP

In May, 2007, CWA held a Youth Waterfowl Hunter Camp at Rancho Esquon, just outside of Durham, California.  Rick Ponciano, ranch manager of Rancho Esquon, speaks with the campers.

This one-of-its-kind camp experience incorporated hunter education, shotgun and rifle shooting, archery, duck calling, dog training as well as many other elements.

The Paradise Gun Club offered volunteers to run the archery, rifle, and trap ranges.

Giving a quick lesson on sighting in a rifle before shooting.

Action shots at the trap range.

Keeping the campers safe and having fun.

some instruction on safety and use of archery tools before starting.

Keeping that front arm straight and drawing back towards the cheek.

Gary Bethel, of Bird Dog Bunkhouse was able to come out and do some dog training. He also brought some puppies from a current litter, which was a big hit.

Good calling is a vital part of becoming a proficient hunter, and so practice makes perfect. Mike Seros of Sundance Hunting Club ran the duck calling instruction.

Jeff Cook brought out the goose decoys and blinds. Putting everything to use, hiding in the layout blind, and using the flag to catch the flock’s attention.

Good weather for the entire camp, great volunteers, and great campers all worked to make this a successful and memorable camp.
