CONAWAY CAMP

In early August, CWA held a camp at Conaway Ranch in Woodland, California. Duck banding, archery, shotgun and rifle shooting were all awaited activites.

CWA Bioligist, Jeremy Kwolek lead the duck banding at Conaway Ranch, which was a big hit for the weekend.

Learning how to tell maturity of the birds based on wing coloration and length.

After banding, campers set out to multiple stations. The shotgun station was run by CWA volunteer Howdy Kay.

Shooting Pellet guns at stationary clay pigeons and paper targets was a big hit.

Volunteer Kevin Ryan worked at the archery station with the campers. Acquiring a new skill like archery takes much time and practice.

Campers got to use both compound and recurve bows at the archery station.

Shooting CO2 pellet guns later in the day .   After shooting, the campers took on decoy painting and flocking. A new experience for the campers and many of the volunteers.

CA DFG Hunters Education instruction work is the foundation for creating safe, responsible and involved hunters of the future. Captain Roy Griffith of the Department of Fish and Game came to speak with the kids about regulations, conservation and being a game warden.

Great volunteers, great locations and great kids make the CWA Youth camp programs a unique, educational and fun experience for all ages, abilities and interests.

Many thanks to our hosts from Conaway Ranch; Steve Gidaro, Mike Hall, Claudio and Sharon Pelli.
