WILD ABOUT WETLANDS RESOURCE
KITS

Wild About Wetlands resource kits provide 4th to 6th grade
students and their teachers with easy-to-use activities, background
information, and all the materials needed for teaching about wetlands
ecosystems.
The kits offer 15 activities in three sections: wetlands, animal
life, and restoring wetlands. They contain unusual items such as
bird skulls and feet that would be difficult for elementary school
teachers to obtain. Activities are also cross-curricular, incorporating
language arts, social science, and mathematics as well as science
and environmental education. Many of the lessons contain extension
activities that promote community action. Introductory workshops
for teachers are offered at a variety of sites.
Kits are available at no charge within established loan site areas.
The convenience of these kits makes them extremely useful to teachers,
who have limited time and budgets and might not otherwise be able
to effectively instruct their students about wetlands ecosystems.
CWA has placed Wild About Wetlands kits in Sacramento, Sutter, Contra
Costa, Colusa, Yolo, Yuba, Solano, and Shasta Counties. The kits
were originally developed by the Yolo Basin Foundation, which oversees
kits primarily in Yolo County.
