Junior Artists: Win a Trip to Canada!

Flyway Journeys Fellowship Opportunity

The Flyway Journeys Program is a partnership between the California Waterfowl Association and Delta Waterfowl Foundation to provide selected youths with a continental perspective of waterfowl and wetland conservation.

For the 2008 Wildlife Art Fellowship, one high school student and one college student will be selected to travel to Delta Marsh in Manitoba, Canada, for a week in summer 2008. The fellowship recipients will spend the week alongside Delta's Artist in Residence, studying Manitoba's outdoors through the visual arts. During the trip, the selected students will also be mentored for a day by professional artist Jim Rataczak. (For more information on the Artist in Residence Program visit Delta's website).

The fellowship includes airfare to and from Winnipeg, Manitoba, from a major California airport on dates to be set by the hosting organizations. The fellowship recipients will be provided transportation to and from Delta Waterfowl Research Station in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, and will be provided a food allowance and accommodations at the research station. The recipients will also receive $150 in art supplies.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to recent passport laws, it is required you already have a passport or have applied for an expedited passport upon applying for the Fellowship.

More Information on the Fellowship Program

The fellowship recipients are each asked to complete a related conservation visual arts project. Living Situation: Delta will provide the students with accommodations and a food allowance for residing on the shores of Lake Manitoba. The students will have a mentor Artist in Residence that will work alongside the students for the week. At all times the students will have access to staff who reside at Delta, and during "off" hours the high school student will be supervised by an appointed Delta staff member.

Station Overview: The famous Delta Station has been home to many of the world's top waterfowl and wetlands biologists in its almost 100-year history. Its location on the wildlife-rich Delta Marsh complex has attracted an impressive list of nature artists. Each summer, students and professional biologists came to the station to live and conduct research, fostering a lively, creative atmosphere. The station had a full-time staff of 4, and occasionally has 6-8 additional resident students/researchers.
